Thank you so much for visiting my site. I’m a self-taught artist and have been a painter most of my life. In addition to painting, I decided to begin working with the unique medium of Crayola Crayons in 2008. It’s one of the most unforgiving mediums I have ever worked with—but I love it! It brings back those wonderful grade school memories of a clean sheet of construction paper and a box of crayons.
You will note a strong influence of mid-century and American culture in my work—especially the 1960s. I feel that period of American history has had a tremendous impact on our culture which is still apparent today. It’s not just kitsch to me—it’s the period that shaped who I am as an artist.
Much of my work reflects urban themes, old TV shows and movies. Although I love to use color, I have always been drawn to black & white photography and movies. I will often take photos with my iPhone and create art from those stills. The themes I create have an extraneous and esoteric concept that are collage inspired.
I have also had my paintings in a few galleries including David Leonardis Galleries, Tony Fitzpatrick’s “World Tattoo Art Gallery” in Chicago and Iridio Studio in Seattle and Portland. Right now, this website and Facebook are a couple of places to see my work. I'm planning on doing a number of shows this year. Check out my facebook account for upcoming shows.
Please stop by again. I plan on adding new work on a regular basis. Contact me via email at: alton.dave419@gmail.com or https://www.facebook.com/dave.alton.3/.
